Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is a Brit-American sitar player and music artist. She was the first person within her age bracket to receive the British House of Commons Staff. Anoushka Shankar is one of India's most promising stars on the sitar. She is the student and sister of Ravi Shankar. Born in London and grew up in New Delhi, she spent the first few years of her life bouncing between London and New Delhi. In New Delhi, she made her first appearance at only 13 years old. Then she relocated to Encinitas CA where she graduated from High School with honours in 1999. Her career as a musician and performer is impressive, despite her age. She has performed with her father on stage for several years. Her debut solo album Anourag in the year 1998. Two years later she released the Grammy nominated album Live at Carnegie Hall. The stage work she has done is broad as she's appeared in all of the world's major venues. The career of Anoushka goes far beyond music. In 2002, she wrote the book Bapi The Love of My Live this is an illustrated biography that pays special respect to her dad Ravi Shankar. Also, she appeared in movie in 2003. Her role was a Bharat natyam dancer in Dance Like a Man. Anoushka Shankar's work continues to grow and we can expect to see many things from her in the years to come. Anoushka Shankar was born in England and spent a lot of her childhood in London and Delhi later relocating to California where she attended high school. at the age of nine She began studying music with her father. The first time she performed on the Sitar was during her birthday celebrations for her 75th birthday in Delhi in the year following. Anoushka was able to gain a variety of valuable experiences by accompanying her dad on his world tour. It included performances at Carnegie Hall and at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festivals in addition to making recordings together with George Harrison. In the end, The House of Commons Shield was given to her from the British Parliament in recognition of being the most renowned Asian Arts musician. She is the only female and youngest recipient of the award.
